Repeal of Religious Exemptions for Vaccinations

June 26, 2019

Dear Parents,

The District previously approved your request for a religious exemption from vaccinations for your children,   XXXX.

Please be advised, on June 13, 2019, the New York State law that allowed parents to obtain exemptions from immunizations based on genuinely held religious beliefs was repealed.  Therefore, the District is no longer permitted to honor the previously granted exemption.  Consequently, your children will no longer be allowed to attend school in the District without the State-required immunizations for poliomyelitis, mumps, measles, diphtheria, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, pertussis, tetanus, and (where applicable by grade level) haemophilus influenza type B (HiB), meningococcal and pneumococcal diseases.

For any school-sponsored summer programs and the 2019-2020 school year only, the recently enacted law will allow your children to attend school if they have received at least the first dose of each of the required immunization series, and have scheduled appointments to complete the age-appropriate series according to recommended immunization schedules.  To participate in District summer programs, documentation of your children’s immunization must be submitted to the District no later than July 1, 2019.  To continue enrollment in school for the 2019-20 school year, documentation of your children’s immunization must be submitted to the District no later than September 1, 2019.

If you have any questions, please contact me or any one of the school nurses.  Thank you.
