The Keshequa Central School District’s Board of Education (BOE) has named Lesley Powers as the district’s next Superintendent.

“The search process was rigorous and the Board of Education truly values the input we received from the various stakeholder groups, including staff, and community members who met with the candidates to help us make a final decision,” said Todd Galton, Keshequa Central School District’s Board President.  “We are confident that Ms. Powers will lead our district through the issues we face in our region.  With her leadership, we will work together to deliver the best education possible for our students.”

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to serve as the Superintendent of Keshequa Central School. I cannot wait to get started and continue the work to meet all students’ academic and social-emotional needs. I look forward to building strong relationships with students, staff, and the community,” Powers said.

Powers is the Pupil Personnel Services Director at East Irondequoit Central Schools, a position she has held since 2012. She oversees the implementation of the regular school year, as well as, extended school year special education programs, related services for six school buildings, two private schools, and district charter school students.

Powers also coordinates multi-tiered systems of support providing data-driven intervention across academics, related services, and social and emotional domains. Previously, she was the Curriculum Coordinator for Greater Southern Tier BOCES where she assisted with the development and implementation of school improvement plans. She also initiated and coordinated in-district professional development related to standards and data-driven instruction. From 2009 until 2011, she served as the interim Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Keshequa Central Schools. Her responsibilities encompassed coordination of homeschooling, mentoring, and academic intervention/response to intervention, as well as, managing state reporting, Title 1 grants, and other state and federal grants. Powers started her career in education in 2000 as a 5th/6th-grade special education teacher at Wayland-Cohocton Central Schools.

Powers earned a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Geneseo, a master’s degree from the State University College at Brockport and a master’s degree from the University of Scranton. Powers holds a New York State School Administrator certification.

The anticipated start date for the new Superintendent is July 2022.

Kevin MacDonald, Genesee Valley BOCES District Superintendent, who acted as the search consultant, said the Board developed and implemented a rigorous and transparent process that was a true collaboration between the Board of Education, district staff and the community.
