Q: How were the project components selected?

A. Based on the community survey feedback, this project has been planned with three basic principles in mind: Community, Technology, and Asset Preservation.  It will be largely focused on improvement of instructional space, building system upgrades, and preservation of Keshequa's community assets at the Nunda Middle-High School, Dalton Elementary School, the Athletic Complex, and Bus Garage.

Q. What is the total cost of this project?

A. The total cost of this project is $22,190,000.00.

Q. What will be the impact on taxpayers?

A. The district will use capital reserves, set aside specifically for capital improvement projects, to offset any additional cost to the taxpayer.  As a result, there will be no additional taxes levied against taxpayers for this project.  The district's calculated NYS aid ratio is 91.6%.

Q. Why is the District proposing a capital project?

A. Keshequa Central School District is committed to exercising care and good judgement in managing community resources with which we are entrusted.  We need to continue to take care of our schools, an important asset the community owns.  Just as one's home ages and needs upkeep and repairs to keep it in good shape, so too do our schools.  The district is addressing its highest-priority capital improvements now, rather than deferring the investment which would result in further deterioration and costlier corrective action.

Q. How was the proposed capital project developed?

A. Over the past several years, the District Administration and Board of Education have been developing a long-range plan to assess current and future capital improvement needs, as well as the means to responsibly achieve them.  During this process, critical safety upgrades and building preservation needs were identified and prioritized, as were opportunities to enrich the student experience through academic program enhancements.  To evaluate conditions at all facilities, the District utilized its Building Condition Survey (BCS), mandated by the State to be conducted every five years.  Additionally, the District considered work soon to exceed expected useful life, consulted with teachers/students, collaborated with the Board of Education, and distributed a Community-wide survey to help target the most vital long-term goals. The District and its partners then reviewed all recommendations over several months to develop a project scope, delivery timeline, and financing options to propose a reasonable and responsible project that would have no additional tax impact on the Keshequa community.
