Mrs. Jines’ 7th Grade Social Studies classes recently went on an exciting adventure, sailing the high seas during the Age of Exploration!
Students were each assigned roles aboard their ships — captains, lieutenants, barbers, cooks, and sailors — and worked together to navigate the unpredictable oceans. Along the way, they faced all sorts of challenges, including pirate attacks, scurvy, storms, navigational troubles, and even the boredom of long voyages. Some crews even claimed to have discovered mysterious new sea creatures!
But the greatest drama came at the end of their journey: a mutiny! When it was revealed that the captain had been stealing food from the crew, the sailors decided enough was enough. With a loud chant of “Walk the plank! Walk the plank!” the captain was sent overboard!
Students had a fantastic time experiencing the dangers, excitement, and teamwork of life during the Age of Exploration — all while learning what it took to survive the open seas.

🇺🇸 After learning about the brave first responders who put their lives at risk during the September 11 attacks, students in Mrs. Jines’ class were inspired to take action. They created heartfelt thank you letters for our local first responders, showing appreciation for the hard work, sacrifice, and dedication they give to our community every single day.

This past Friday was AVID Day — and our #MyAVIDWhy is simple: We believe every student can achieve at the highest levels!
Keshequa celebrated AVID Day on Friday, joining schools across the country in recognizing the power of education, the dedication of teachers, and the perseverance of students. This is our second year partnering with AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), a program that helps students build important skills for success in school and in life—like critical thinking, working together, and developing leadership. We’re excited to see how AVID continues to support our students as they grow and achieve their goals!
