Miss Neus’s 6th grade social studies classes wrapped up their classical civilizations unit with a fun, hands-on challenge—building and testing mini catapults!
Using only popsicle sticks, rubber bands, plastic spoons, and mini cups, students were challenged to design a functional catapult capable of launching a marshmallow across the room. The room was full of creativity, problem-solving, and plenty of laughs!
Students walked away with a deeper understanding of innovation, teamwork, and the joy of building something with their own hands.A sweet ending to a powerful unit of learning.

🚧 Worksite Wednesday 🚧
We know it’s been a little while as work was underway- but we’re excited to officially bring back Worksite Wednesdays! This series gives you a behind-the-scenes look at our Capital Improvement Project, and we’re thrilled to share that our library is really starting to take shape!
With just a few finishing touches planned over Spring Break, we recently welcomed students in for their first look at the new space. They had the chance to explore, begin checking out books, and settle into this updated learning environment.
It’s been incredible to see our students already embracing the new library and making it their own- we can’t wait to share more progress with you in the weeks ahead!

Mrs. Hochbrueckner and Miss Lattuca’s 3rd grade class recently completed a unit on functional writing, and put their skills into action in a fun and meaningful way!
Students read directions on how to create a puzzle, followed those steps, and designed their own puzzles. They then practiced how to support someone solving their puzzle without simply giving away the answer- learning how to ask if help was needed, offer clues and hints, and provide kind redirection.
To bring it all together, the class partnered with Mrs. Wood’s 2nd grade class, where third graders shared their puzzles and worked alongside the younger students as they solved them. It was wonderful to see the excitement, teamwork, and thoughtful guidance from the third graders, along with the joy from the second graders.

🇺🇸 KCS Students Explore Government Through Close Up Trip
Some of our students recently traveled to Washington, D.C. for the Close Up program- an immersive, hands-on experience focused on how the U.S. government works. During their stay, students participated in engaging workshops where they discussed current issues, debated ideas, and explored the important role citizens play in a democracy.
While in the nation’s capital, students visited several iconic landmarks, including the National Air and Space Museum, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Botanic Garden, and the Washington Monument. They also learned to navigate the Metro system, gaining confidence as they explored the city like locals.
Students also made a visit to Congresswoman Claudia Tenney’s office, where students spoke with a staff member and asked thoughtful questions about topics that matter to them- like support for local farms and improvements to education.
Beyond the learning experiences, students enjoyed spending time together and soaking in the history and energy of Washington, D.C. The trip was both fun and meaningful, leaving students with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for how our government works.
